Seed stalks on rhubarb plants should be removed as soon as they appear. A lot of energy is used to produce seeds that should be directed to the root. The seed stalks only appear for a couple of weeks in the spring.
I ran across your blog while surfing and this is something my rhubarb did this spring and last. I did cut them out, but didn't know that it was the right thing to do. Now I can rest easy about the rhubarb. Thanks. - Dawn
I planted my first tomato plant in northwest Illinois in 1947 and have been gardening ever since. My house is on a 2.3 acre lot and have 3 garden plots totaling 10,000 square feet. All vegetable. No flowers. No weeds.
