Frosty Watermelons

The watermelon vines have been done in by the frost. I picked all the small immature melons and put them aside.
Then I remove the vine and put them on the compost pile.
Next I carefully cube those small melons up with a big old knife
Then I rototill them in.

I have either eaten or given away 14 melons and I still have these 14 left. I only planted 4 seeds.

  1. Very tidy! I would be giving my chickens the melons.

I had to harvest my sweet potatoes because of frost. They didn't produce as heavily as yours, but I was happy with them.

  2. My first attempt last year resulted in four melons from two vines. This year nada ... our wet spring and short summer was difficult for short season variety melons ... I'm in zone 5 near the Canadian border.
