Digging Carrots

These carrots were planted on July 19 of this year and are for winter storage.

They were dug today.

And this is the result.

For storage, you have to cut off the tops like this or they will start to grow in just a couple weeks.

I then pack them in a five gallon bucket with damp wood shavings.

Top it off and put them in my outside basement stairwell and they will keep till next June.

Squash and pumpkins

This is what is left to harvest of the squash and pumpkins the day before the frost. I had planted 2 acorn squash, 2 butternut squash, 6 orange pumpkins and 2 white pumpkins. No weeds!

And it will remain weed free.

Frosty Watermelons

The watermelon vines have been done in by the frost. I picked all the small immature melons and put them aside.
Then I remove the vine and put them on the compost pile.
Next I carefully cube those small melons up with a big old knife
Then I rototill them in.

I have either eaten or given away 14 melons and I still have these 14 left. I only planted 4 seeds.

Dug the Sweet Potatoes

And this is the result. Just over 60 pounds from 10 plants.
