These carrots were planted on July 19 of this year and are for winter storage.
They were dug today.
And this is the result.
For storage, you have to cut off the tops like this or they will start to grow in just a couple weeks.
I then pack them in a five gallon bucket with damp wood shavings.
Top it off and put them in my outside basement stairwell and they will keep till next June.
I have never heard of actually cutting the tops all the way off of carrots for storage like that, how very interesting. What variety did you grow this year?
ReplyDeleteMr. H. The variety is Danvers Half Long. They have done well for me for many years.
ReplyDeleteLarry, I am learning things from you at my ripe old age! I have given up on carrots....may give them a shot next year.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your weed-free garden still makes me uncomfortable. I will not be posting pictures of mine!
