This is one of the 8 broccoli plants I transplanted yesterday. I use half of a yogurt container for cut worm protection and chicken wire for birds. In about 3 weeks the protection is know longer needed and can be reused on other transplants.
I dust cabbage with Sevin. (Carbaryl) A little goes a long way. If you can see the dust you did to much. Cabbage grows from the in side out so you peel off the outside leaves anyway.
I planted my first tomato plant in northwest Illinois in 1947 and have been gardening ever since. My house is on a 2.3 acre lot and have 3 garden plots totaling 10,000 square feet. All vegetable. No flowers. No weeds.
When I first tilled this year, I only saw one tiny cutworm. I think we may have been to hot for them.
ReplyDeleteI put out a flat of cabbages and broccoli (home raised) without protection. So far, no loss.
Any tips on cabbage moths? I put a plug in for your blog on mine today.
